HOW DOES IT WORK?

Let visitors to our wonderful city know that you are happy to help them out with directions and recommendations! Just display an Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM button or sticker prominently—pin it to your bag or stick it on your shirt—and prepare to share your knowledge of Philadelphia’s historical sites, cultural treasures, parks, and restaurants. We also hand out bookmarks and distribute bookmarks through local shops to help visitors recognize the buttons and stickers.

NEED A BUTTON? IT'S FREE!

We are happy to send a free button or pack of stickers to anyone in the Philadelphia area. To receive your free button or pack of stickers, just send us an e-mail at info@askmephiladelphia.com. Please include the phrase "Ask Me Philadelphia" in the subject, include your name and mailing address in the body of the message, and tell us one thing you love about Philadelphia. Please specify which design you would prefer: Liberty Bell or Skyline. We would also appreciate knowing how you found out about Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM. We will send you a free button or pack of stickers, and we promise that we will never share your name, e-mail address, or mailing address with anyone else.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to financial limitations, we do not have free buttons and stickers available at this time. We are currently seeking partners to enable us to continue the availability of these items and programs.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!   FREE T-SHIRT!

We are looking for enthusiastic Philadelphians to help us pass out buttons, stickers, and bookmarks. We will present you with your very own Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM t-shirt when you join the team. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to info@askmephiladelphia.com. We will be in touch with you to discuss upcoming events. Thanks!

WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?

A word from Luke Klein, executive director of Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM :

Like many Philadelphians, I love my native city. I am proud of the diversity of rich cultural activities and experiences that are available in Philadelphia. When friends visit from afar, I insist on introducing them to at least a few of the wonders of this city, and I welcome the opportunity to assist any tourists that I encounter here.

I have also traveled extensively around the world. While I have often enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to make my way through foreign cities—sometimes in places where I could only say “hello” and “thank you” in the native language—I have also been saved many times by helpful citizens who have extended to me or made themselves accessible to inquiry. Kind and helpful citizens of foreign places have not only assisted me in getting to the train or the bank, but they have often dramatically improved my perceptions of a place.

I know a great many proud and knowledgeable Philadelphians who are always glad to assist visitors. The goal of the Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM button is to encourage the sense among visitors that there are friendly and helpful natives available to assist them. A caring interaction can really make a difference to a visitor, and we Philadelphians can have a great time with it too!

WHAT'S NEXT FOR ASK ME PHILADELPHIATM?

  • SUPPORT OF LOCAL CHARITIES: A portion of any proceeds that may be received in support of Ask Me PhiladelphiaTM will be donated to local charities that provide assistance to Philadelphians in need.
  • OTHER LANGUAGES: We will soon be releasing buttons that will announce in the languages commonly spoken by tourists to Philadelphia that the wearer can assist a visitor in his or her native tongue.
  • ONLINE INFORMATION RESOURCE: We are in the process of assembling a panel of knowledgeable Philadelphians who would be able to answer the questions of visitors to our city. The questions and answers will be posted in a searchable FAQ format, so that visitor will be able to seek the answers of real Philadelphians online.

QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS?

We welcome any questions, comments, or suggestions. Please send them to info@askmephiladelphia.com. Please include the phrase "Ask Me Philadelphia" in the subject. We will try to reply to any interesting ideas, but we cannot promise that we will be able to respond to all messages. Of course, we can promise that we will never share your name or e-mail address with anyone else.
